Facility Announces Closure of COVID-19 Unit Because of Community Strides in Stopping Spread

MANITOWOC – The Bay at North Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center welcomed State Rep. Paul Tittl (RManitowoc) Friday, who visited the facility to thank nurses and staff for their hard work during the COVID-19 crisis, and to celebrate the caring hearts and servant spirits of all area nurses during National Nurses Week.

Following a tour of the facility, Rep. Tittl presented a framed letter to the staff at The Bay at North Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in honor of their work developing and maintaining a COVID-19 unit at the facility. The facility recently closed this unit because of the significant strides the community has made in containing the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

“In honor of National Nurses Week, I am pleased to thank the hard-working caregivers and staff at The Bay at North Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center for the care and services they provide,” Rep. Tittl said. “On behalf of the Manitowoc area, thank you for all that you do for the older adults in our community.”

Rep. Tittl thanked the nurses, therapists, and certified nursing assistants in the facility caring for area residents.

“The Bay at North Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center has closed its COVID-19 Unit because of the success that northeastern Wisconsin has had in fighting the pandemic,” said John Vander Meer, Director of Development for Champion Care, which operates the facility. “The unit has served the community well, and The Bay at North Ridge’s staff team have helped our patients effectively transition back to the community.”

Vander Meer said that The Bay at North Ridge created the unit to ensure that area residents had access to the care they needed and ensure hospitals and health systems had the necessary capacity during COVID-19 surges. If a community need arises, he said the facility will open the unit to help the community and hospital partners.

“Champion Care and North Ridge are proud of the effective rate of rehabilitative care that our team has been able to provide to members of the community struck by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Vander Meer said. “Without the care and dedication of caregivers at The Bay at North Ridge, this success would never have been possible.”
